Anthony obtained his veterinary degree from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and remained at Tufts to complete a one year internship followed by a three year residency in comparative ophthalmology. During his eight years at Tufts University\, Anthony published many peer-reviewed articles in the field of veterinary ophthalmology. This non-invasive procedure is free of charge\, is not painful or uncomfortable and has the potential to provide critical information for continuing research into this disease. Dr. Townsend will examine any Golden Retriever – healthy eyes or otherwise – 6 years and older. Goldens without pedigrees or those from a rescue situation are more than welcome to become a part of this research project. Lappin DVM\nColorado State UniversityCollege of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences \n\n\n\nDr. Lappin is a professor of infectious disease in the Department of Clinical Sciences. His laboratory studies immune responses to vaccination against respiratory viruses in cats\, as well as immune responses to feline vaccines. He also oversees a large diagnostic service for feline infectious agents\, including Toxoplasma gondii\, Bartonella\, Ehrlichia and others. Current areas of investigation include mechanisms of transmission of Hemoplasma spp\, therapies for rickettsial diseases\, and companion animals as carriers of drug-resistant staphylococci. This non-invasive procedure is free of charge\, is not painful or uncomfortable and has the potential to provide critical information for continuing research into this disease. Dr. Townsend will examine any Golden Retriever – healthy eyes or otherwise – 6 years and older. Goldens without pedigrees or those from a rescue situation are more than welcome to become a part of this research project. Dependent on the interest in this year’s clinic\, the age requirement is subject to change. \n\n\n\nDr. Townsend is strongly encouraging Golden Retrievers 12 years and older and those previously seen at PU clinics to participate in this year’s clinic. The clinic is limited to 125 dogs. Lappin DVM\nColorado State UniversityCollege of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences \n\n\n\nDr. Lappin is a professor of infectious disease in the Department of Clinical Sciences. His laboratory studies immune responses to vaccination against respiratory viruses in cats\, as well as immune responses to feline vaccines. He also oversees a large diagnostic service for feline infectious agents\, including Toxoplasma gondii\, Bartonella\, Ehrlichia and others. Current areas of investigation include mechanisms of transmission of Hemoplasma spp\, therapies for rickettsial diseases\, and companion animals as carriers of drug-resistant staphylococci. DESCRIPTION:Our annual Parade of Heroes\, hosted by the Morris Animal Foundation\, will be held during the lunch break on October 12th. \n\n\n\nMorris Animal Foundation\, the Golden Retriever Club of America®\, and the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study Volunteers announce the Parade of Heroes. This parade is ONLY for study-participating Golden Retrievers as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the dogs enrolled in the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. Please join us for a tribute to these courageous Goldens\, their loving families\, and the dedicated volunteers supporting this study. We encourage our Angel Hero families to join us as well. \n\n\n\nMorris Animal Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is a prospective\, observational study that is following approximately 3000 golden retrievers\, throughout their lifetimes\, to identify the risk factors for cancer and other common diseases. For more information\, please visit http://www.caninelifetimehealth.org.  \n\n\n\nSubmit your entry with a brief (100 words or less)\, typewritten narrative about your hero Golden and include one funny or quirky thing about your dog. A special committee will select a few stories to read during the parade. The committee reserves the right to edit submitted material.
